We go there quite often (once every two weeks or so). The food is great. The people who own/run this restaurant also own/owned Pattaya in York County.

$30 for steaks of that quality isn't a bad deal at all

My steak was good, but I remember spending more like nearly $50.

When I was home I enjoyed going to Freemason Abby in Norfolk. I consider it upscale ish. Also 1 Fish 2 Fish down by the ocean front is good too.

Freemason Abby is awesome! It has the same feel to it as Bonefish though. Wanna-be upscale with mid level prices.

We were dressed in casual attire, thinking, "it looks just like a road house type of place but 'local' established." Wrong. While a suit and tie aren't required, wearing casual (and I mean for me, a semi-worn T-shirt, jeans, etc.) wear and having our 5 year old son with us made me feel a little uneasy. Thankfully, our son wasn't entirely cranky that evening -- it was 10'oclock after all. Anyway, we get there and there is an older guy playing a synthesizer/piano and a slightly younger woman playing a clarinet..... most were in a dresses and clean slacks/sweaters, etc. We felt out of place as we were totally unprepared for that type of atmosphere, though getting up after being seated would have made us look like bigger asses. I'm glad we stayed! It's far better than Ruth Chris, in fact, the steak there is damn good. In fact, coming up on midnight snack time, I'm making my fucking self hungry now..

We figured at this point, fuck it.. lets chow down. We opened up with a lobster bisque (dance good) and oysters (on half a shell). Damn good.

I had the porterhouse medium -- damn close to perfection (this particular cut/quality/preparation) melted damn near as good as a medium rare Bison.. My wife had an Australian lobster tail (if you haven't had an Australian north warm water or cold water west -- you're missing out) -- absolutely perfect.

I don't remember what they had for a kid menu, I think breaded chicken strips (which of course I had to sample and they too were damn good as well for a kids menu item -- or the waiter suggested it as a kids menu item unsure if it really was). Though sounds like it will be just a nice evening with your wife and yourself so, thats irrelevant.

My Bday is Monday, I think I know where we'll go now.. <grin> I do wish they had Bison though.. I'm still searching for a place that knows how to prepare Bison right.

Sounds like a pretty good place to go to. We do love us some steak. I like the idea as well that people are more dressed up. That is really what I am looking for, not trying to wear a button up shirt and her look nice and we eat a place where most people are in t-shirts and jorts.

i work at the pot.. i could get you outta there with out spending too much dough. Its a niche restaraunt. Get table 7 if you go.

Steinhilbers is way over rated.... whack service with over priced, mediocre food... four star my ass.

Blue Hippo is closed. So is Bobbywood.

Todd Jurich's is good...but don't go if you are hungry. Great food though...

One Fish, Two Fish never did me wrong.

Byrd and Baldwin in Norfolk is good. But more exspensive than RC.

RC is worth every damn penny.

Schlesinger's in Newport News is good.

The Stove in Portsmouth is pretty new... and good.

Il Giardino does half off wine night on Tuesdays and BOGO entrees on Sundays.

Terrapin is pretty bad ass too.

Screw Aberdeen Barn.. you really want to bring her somewhere with barn in the name?

Restaraunt week is in January in Norfolk I think... You can try most of the fine dining places in Norfolk for like 30 bucks a head for a three course meal... Virginia Beach is doing one pretty soon too.

This subject has been beat to death.
