Re: AP1 with 4.56 gears
My 4.77's made zero noise and Spike Spiegle's (EJ) 4.77's make zero noise.
However, I have heard that the Richmond 4.56's are known to whine and that's why Rick's came out with the 4.57 final.
OP- You have a 9,000 rpm range. And extra 400 rpm would not have been "too agressive" for your DD. No one is really flaming you. Lot's of people think they know what they are talking about and think the 4.77's are "too agressive". Those people have never had them. I simply said that if you are going to pay the money for the swap, you might as well get the final that makes a bigger difference at minimal cost. It only turns 400 more rpm's than the 4.56 but has been proven on the dyno to free up quite a bit more torque through the entire rpm range.
If you think the 4.56's were worth it, then you have never been in an S with 4.77's. But if you are happy b/c you don't know any better, then that's all that matters and good for you.

Re: AP1 with 4.56 gears
The 4.77 gear is a Factory Mazda part used in the 93+ RX7 and the front transfer case in the Kia Sportage. That is one of the main reasons the 4.77 swap is as quiet as the stock 4.10.

Re: AP1 with 4.56 gears
Sweet then. Hey more torque to the ground is what counts. But in the future, if you feel like staying N/A but want to free up some more power, J's Racing makes a 5.10 gear . Probably more shifting than it's worth...

Re: AP1 with 4.56 gears
I am going to have to try out a 4.77 gear because I have heard it's a big jump up from the 4.56/4.57 gear
