Driftwater Pictures (56K explosion!)
I was pretty happy with my car, I didnt break anything and it ran amazing. I wish I had pics with all my rims on and not the steels haha but ohh well. Next time, I want more power before the event.
my post over in the events for after event talk. I'm bringing it hear for those with grip related questions.
the grip section was spectacular.
"starting" line 1st to 2nd
first turn is a left hander top of 2nd corner if you hit it right pop into third at the apex
straightaway
2nd turn is a decreasing radius corner right hander and very hard to properly brake for and navigate. Its a top of third gear corner off camber i'd say 5 degrees off banking that the apex is very similar to the last downhill turn at road atlanta. Right after the apex there is a bump that you better have your suspension setup for or you're hating that corner. It took me 4 runs of about 5 laps each to continually make tire pressure adjustments and dampening adjustments to get it right. once i did OMG it was the funnest corner to full throttle on after apex.
straightaway is back into top of 3rd gear
HARD on the brakes
3rd corner is a bottom of 2nd gear left hander u turn mod. throttle to full after apex swing out and settle car
imediatly setup for 4th corner and STAB the brake again
4th corner is a diving into an on camber 2nd gear 120degree right hander with a dried up mudpuddle at the apex. The banking in this is extreme. 20degrees i'd say. If you setup right throttle out to rotate car for next corner
5th corner is another off camber downhill increasing radius after apex. I'd say 7-10 degrees its the last corner and slideathon power up on apex exit.
i stuck a camera on my car almost all day. Later in the day i stuck it on a customers Evo while i rode and then 2 laps where i drove. So i'll review and ask dan if its ok to post or link to if the videos are worthy.
Here are some comments i'll say about today
After I initially setup the car i litterly beat the living shit out of it and the course today. Banging gears, banging the brakes. At the end of the day you could clearly see my breaking zones and acceleration zones from the very very very sticky nitto NT-01's sized 235/45/17 up front and 255/45/17 rear. They got better and better the later and hotter the day got and the better i got on track. They loved the heat and took every bit of my abuse.
I need better harnesses. I was having to re-adjust myself in my seat after the braking zone for turn 3 and after taking turn 4. i was moving around in my very tight, fitted carbon seat.
Anyone that says Megan coilovers are crap havent used them how they were designed or hasnt experienced what i did today. For the longest time I thought they were too stiff and I couldnt feel the dampening get effected when i would make changes. But once you put slicks or stickies on and you drive like and champion hah them things are on point. I started the day full soft and made changes and felt noticable differences. The car was perfect with them F/R on full hard. The spring rate was perfect. The shock travel was perfect. The dampening level was perfect.
I continued to run no rear sway bar and loved it. I ran the big wing and loved it.
I ended the day knowing I beat the shit out of the car properly and figured out the track and beat it too. Then ran out of gas. Since the area we were in didnt have E85 anywhere I figured put her on the dolley and watch some drifters.
I brought the car in clean and fresh and left with brake dust on the fenders, exhaust on the fenders, dust/shiny rock particles all over the interior, and an amazing amount of rubber and dust on the rear bumper.
i'm leaving some out but FUCKING SPECTACULAR day. You better bring your A Game with you and your car or else youre going to end your day early.

Haha, the event blossomed into a ultimate bad ass track adventure as the thread went on. The next one will be titled more accurately
.
.
ALSO I see a lot of drift cars that might need a free set of coilovers
