Default Dodge Check Engine Light

Long story short, 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2, starter shit the bed. Check engine light was on and i replaced the starter. Everything runs fine now, check engine light had gone off. This morning check engine light comes back on, any ideas?? When i hooked it up to the computer and the work was initially done, no codes were thrown as to why check engine was on. I was thinking maybe it had to do with the starter or something. Now im clueless, i will hook it back to the computer this weekend, but just wondering if anyone else has any input?

It's an OBD2 vehicle, there should be stored codes unless it's something really minor like the gas cap isn't tight and it's a fuel vapor fault. That's just an example obviously.

That would store for 50 or so starts...

Key On - Off - On - Off - On (Not Start) and it should give you a "keydance" code, which will help determine without a scanner the basic problem.

Be prepared. It's going to flash something like 1 pause 2 or something to start (Start Code) and 5 - 5 to finish (End Code) Anything between the first series of flashes, and the 55, should be valid, important information.

First guess, cam/crank signal issue, or misfire condition. Something minor it sees that you might not.
