From what I hear they are solid, and a 50hp boost really isn't all that much on an engine that was built for 350hp. I'm actually trying to talk my gf into buying one too.
is this the same motor that's in the srt6? I've heard good things about that motor.
For 10k though your best bet will be Mazdaspeed Protege or SRT-4. Most of the other cars listed you will be hard pressed to find a 2000+ for 10k or less.

I found a few under autotrader with over 100k miles for 10-11k. If you search without any distance theyll pop up.
True but I don't think it'd be practical to drive half way across country for a sight unseen look on a 100k mi+ Mercedes either. You probably wouldn't make it home.
Besies if you're looking for the best bang for the buck an older euro car is just going to be high maintenance cost. You may get less car with a SRT-4 or something of the likes, but you can probably get one newer, with less miles that will be more reliable and less expensive to mod/repair.
