Just kidding. From in the cabin of the malibu other than the force of the car coming to a stop. It looks almost like nothing happened on the inside.

What a loaded test. They just happened to choose an X-frame, and then they happened to put it into an offset crash test. X-frames dont work in offset crashes. Would have been far more interesting if they had used a car that had given any thought to crash safety at all like a 1959 Mercedes W111 which had crumple zones, a safety cage, windshield/rear glass designed to pop away from the car in an accident, a padded dash, a padded steering wheel, a break-away rear view mirror, and could be had with seat belts (still dealer installed and not factory for a couple more years though). Oh wait...now it looks like we haven't come quite as far in 50 years...

I want to see a GTR hit a GTR in a head on collision.

Just so that there are 2 less in the world. And so I can make it a gif and play it constantly.

those cars had lap belts...chevy's didnt do diaganol belts until the 60s and they werent even retractable.

malibu is what the old chevelles were from 64-up. it was a trim level of chevelles.

bel air, caprice and impala are all the same...since 58

Because a 1959 Mercedes W111 was a common car back in the day. Both cars in this test were and are common vehicles seen on the road.

Lets put a modern top teir luxury car against your 1959 Mercedes and see the difference then.

Seatbelts weren't required in the US until 1961. And even then it was a lapbelt in the front.

That would also be more interesting. It just seems a big ridiculous to me that they decided to use an X-frame in an offset test.

BTW, there were only about 150,000 more Bel Air sedans made than W111 sedans (370k vs 520k). The W111 wasn't exactly rare. They were about the same price too.
