i sorta had the same experience last year, had a ct scan and had to go to a neurologist. they with drew alot of blood to run tests but never really found anything out. i was lacking a few minerals in my diet though. i forget what they prescribed me now. (ill look, might have the bottle still) But they went away after about a month of constant, daily migraines.

since i live in Maryland, i went to Anne Arundel Medical Center where they have a full neurologist wing.

ps:
my blood pressure is normal

good luck man, i know it hurts.

Yes, I've read that and it was in the Answers.com article. If I had access I would probably try it. The article states that women were known to say child birth is less painful. It was also stated in early days of diagnosis, many were on suicide watch b/c of the pain. Men were reported as saying it was the equivalent to amputation sans anesthesia. Its a very interesting piece. After the GP narrowed it to Cluster Headaches, I started researching more in depth as now it isn't generalized migraine. I have a pain in my temple now. It has yet to progress since about 7 am. However, I'm positive it will. The article also states that pain can only really be dulled and the sooner the better. The specialists know what happens during but, no exact science on the "why". I'm living on the premise that "nothing is forever" and just treat the pain until...........

This is the insane problem! Nothing shows up as abnormal. I've had some friends come through with some recommendations. I'm waiting on the name of a specific one at the moment. One was not in my insurance network and the other has a policy that requires my GP to refer me. So I'm now awaiting this 3rd before I call my GP.

Extracted info
Cluster headaches afflict less than 0.5% of the population and predominantly affect men;

However, episodic cluster headaches occur during one- to five-month periods followed by sixto 24-month attack-free, or remission, periods. There is no such reprieve for chronic cluster headache sufferers.

Cluster headache, nicknamed "suicide headache", is a neurological disease that involves, as its most prominent feature, an immense degree of pain.

severe migraines, and experts believe that it may be the most severe pain known to medical science. It has been described by female patients as being more severe than childbirth.

"Cluster headache is probably the worst pain that humans experience. I know that’s quite a strong remark to make, but if you ask a cluster headache patient if they’ve had a worse experience, they’ll universally say they haven't. Women with cluster headache will tell you that an attack is worse than giving birth. So you can imagine that these people give birth without anesthetic once or twice a day, for six, eight, or ten weeks at a time, and then have a break. It's just awful."[4]

"Our patients were disabled by the disorder and suffered from bouts of pain from two to twenty times a week. They had found no relief from the usual methods of treatment. Their pain was so severe that several of them had to be constantly watched for fear of suicide. Most of them were willing to submit to any operation which might bring relief."

There is substantial anecdotal evidence that serotonergic psychedelics such as psilocybin (mushrooms) and LSD and LSA (d-Lysergic acid amide, contained by Rivea corymbosa seeds) abort cluster periods and extend remission periods.[35][36][37] Melatonin, psilocybin, serotonin, and the triptan abortive drugs are closely-related tryptamines.

Dr. Andrew Sewell and Dr. John Halpern at McLean Hospital in Boston have investigated the ability of psilocybin ("magic mushrooms") and LSD to treat cluster headaches. These researchers examined medical records of 53 patients who had taken hallucinogenic mushrooms and reported in Neurology that the majority of them found partial or complete relief from cluster attacks.[38] A clinical study of these treatments under the auspices of Clusterbusters is being developed by Dr. Halpern and colleagues at Harvard Medical School, McLean Hospital.[39][40]

Within the United States, the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970 makes it illegal to possess hallucinogens (including psilocybin and LSD), classifying them as Schedule I drugs with no legitimate medical use. Patients who use psilocybin to treat their symptoms face legal prosecution, although there are no known convictions.

For the OP, What is you nose like? I've heard of many people with breathing problems and deviated septums having migranes. Or did you ever get your nose broken? That can have alot to do with it. Also Try looking up Ergotamine It is used medicinally for treatment of acute migraine attacks (sometimes in combination with caffeine). Not many Doctors know about it. Good Luck

I'm glad to see this was bumped. The day this thread was created I saw it, but couldn't remember the neurologist I saw over a year ago. I remembered his name, but couldn't spell it right and kept getting bad search results. Last night I remembered the spelling, but figured you'd gotten fixed up and I didn't want to bump a 3 week old thread...

My neurologist was Dr. Ibrahim Hegab.
http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-rating...Richmond/Hegab

What you're describing sounds pretty similar to what I had, but I believe mine were classed as tension headaches. Like you said, it's hard for them to diagnose them as even neurologists still don't understand them. I'm sure your's are being caused by something else, but here's what happened to me...

I was on a pretty heavy workout program and lifting every day. At some point I seperated a nerve in my neck. I must have strained too hard or something, but never felt anything like a pulled muscle. After that every time I tried to work out, or did anything the least bit strenious it would trigger a headache. Once triggered they would last for 20 minutes to 4 hours and the pain was so intense I cried sometimes. I used to get migraines when I was 19 and knew off the bat that these were way worse and not the same kind of headache. Like the article posted above, I seriously thought of killing myself sometimes because of the pain (anybody reading this has no clue what it's like till you have one yourself). The worst part... I would get one of these headaches every time I'd try to have sex as well.

I ended up going to my normal doctor a few times with no help. So he reffered me to Dr. Hegab. I went through cat scans and all that stuff and they found nothing. Basically part of how we diagnosed my problem was by me collecting as much data as possible and reporting back to Dr. Hegab until we narrowed it down.

I had to stop working out completely and he put me on a light steriod to help build my neck muscles up enough to let the nerve heal. He also gave me some barbituates (sp?) for the headaches. After about a month I stopped getting the headaches and haven't gotten them since, but I don't work out anymore either. The last time I did try to work out I felt one coming, so I stopped.

I would give him a shot. The link I posted has a few reviews. Some of them aren't so great, and some of them are. For instance in the last review the lady said he was the only neurologist out of 4 that was able to diagnose and fix her headaches.

Best of luck man, I know what you're going through and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

BTW the article talking about using hallucinogens as a cure is pretty interesting. If I have them return at any point I may give that a shot.

ive had migraines for about 10 years. its never easy and it pretty much sucks ass because its always in the middle of doing something. i usually get them at least once a month but ive had occations when i get them twice in a day which turns into vomitting. the best comparison ive made to the pain is a sledge hammer directly to the face and ive had instances where it feels like a mini stroke and i get numbness in my arms and hands and sometimes its hard for me to form sentences but that usually passes with sleep.

it is noticebly worse on occations when we have whether changes such as high high and low pressure fronts and this last bad hurricane we had i had 3 in a day. doctors have told me that certain foods such as food with high sugar contect and smoked meats like ham or turkey and such can trigger it and ive noticed that a lot.

ive also been to many doctors and had several types of scans and such and nothing has come up abnormal as well. ive been giving a bunch of medicines as well and nothing makes a difference.i did go to the eye doctor and he told me its a "basic migraine" which means basically im fucked and theres nothing they can do. he told me to take 750mg of aleve when it happens and as dumb as it sounds it works....sometimes, most of the time it just knocks me out and i sleep a few hours and wake up to a slightly less painfull headache. good luck man i know the feeling and it sucks.

If anyone is stressed usually, you may be clenching/grinding your teeth while you sleep. This causes alot of people to have headaches/neck aches in the early hours after waking up. The dentist recommends a night gaurd.

Just something some of yall may have never heard about, just thought I'd throw that out there. I haven't tried one yet, but I probably should.
