HEBRON, Md. -- State troopers and county deputies are investigating a shooting that left one man dead at a home in Wicomico County early Sunday.
The victim was identified as Preston Morehouse, 19. The victim’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be performed.
Morehouse moved to Maryland within the last two weeks and had been staying with the residents of the home where the shooting occurred, according to police, who said he apparently had lived in Florida and Virginia before.
Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Maryland State Police from the Salisbury Barracks responded to a 911 call in which the caller said a shooting had occurred at a residence in the 27000 block of Ocean Gateway in Hebron. Arriving troopers found the victim lying just inside the front door of the single-family home.
Morehouse was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Maryland State Police homicide unit investigators are leading the investigation, with assistance from members of the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation. Police are interviewing people found inside the home, as well as residents in the area.
No one has been arrested in the case. A description of a suspect or suspects hasn't been released.
Anyone who may have information about the slaying is asked to contact Maryland State Police at the Salisbury Barracks at 410-749-3101. The identity of callers may be kept confidential.
