stereo problems
I have a used 99 ford expedition i purchased a few years back. It had an aftermarket deck when i purchased it and everything was fine until a week ago when my music started cutting off all of a sudden. Ever since then If i turn the radio on it works and music plays but after 5-10 sec the music cuts off completely. The radio still functions and displays but no sound what so ever plays. Jus silence. I checked any and all fuses i could think of and all are good to go. I was curious as to what my problem could be. If you guys could give me some things to go off of it would be great. Thanks

Re: stereo problems
You probably have a shorted speaker output and the internal amplifier is shutting off from a thermal fault. It may also be a fatigued solder joint inside that is losing contact when it heats up slightly. Take out the radio and check the resistance of the speakers at the radio connector with a multimeter. They aren't going to measure the same as what their rated impedance is, so an 8 ohm speaker doesn't have a DC resistance of 8 ohms. You're just looking for a noticeable short. If you don't find anything, chances are good that the head unit has problems and needs to be repaired or replaced depending on how much it's worth.

^^^^^what he said^^^^ if you are not running a separate amp to your speakers you really dont have a reason to think it's the speakers either your head unit isn't grounding out properly, or sadly to say your head unit's days are numbered.
