I'm reasonably certain that the US dub community didn't start anything in regards to wackball wheel fitment, nor is it a "trend" per se. Insomuch as I'm aware, Shakotan/Zokusha cars have been running around Japan for decades with slam/stretch/poke (and probably someone else prior to that), it's not like it's some kind of passing fad. It doesn't matter who started doing it first in the US.
