Ford needs to make a proper sportscar that doesn't cost $140k. I'd have to think that an affordable Ford GT type car would sell amazingly well.

 

Car manufacturers don't make money on high dollar sports cars. That is why all the top manufacturers don't even make anything close to a sports car. Also, affordable is a matter of perception. The Ford GT wasn't even that great anyways.

 

Huh? The Corvette is a sportscar... the Viper is a sportscar.... Porsche makes lots of them.... the S2000 is a sportscar etc. etc. Don't confuse sportscar with exotic. The Miata is a sportscar etc. etc. etc.

Ford doesn't make any.... the GT was a halo car and it was/is awesome. Ford needs to make a proper sportscar... i.e. their version of the Corvette. Something 2-door 2-seater that's sleak and sexy. Us the 5.0 and they could have something really cool.

LOL @ S2000. The S2000 is not a sports car. Nor is the miata a sports car. They are Sport Compacts. Yes, the Vette and the Viper are sports cars, but they are far from being affordable to 90% of the population. Porsche? They are borderline exotic. Most people in America are not going to buy a sports car, so companies like Ford are better off using their resources for building smaller, safer, and more fuel efficient cars. The recession is far from over, so dumping development money into a sports car is just not a safe plan. Sure, we the car loving people of this country will be sad about it. But in the end, it will keep the company making money. It isn't about what we want, it is about what will sell the best.

 

I agree with this....

They could make a two seater rwd with a GT500 motor and go from there... Maybe bring back the Thunderbird moniker with it.

 

Why? It was over $100k and couldn't even handle as well as a Z06. It looked cool and had a lot of power, but that was about it.

 

A lot of exotics couldn't handle better than the Zo6, does that make all of them suck? The GT was right there with the Zo6 handling wise, and looked 100 times better, I love the looks of the C6Z's, but they don't have the wow factor of a GT, and the power potential of a GT is out of this world.

 

You need to check your definition of a sports car and a sport compact. A sport compact is a sporty version of a compact car, i.e., Civic Si, Cobalt SS, SRT4 Neon, Volkswagon GTI, etc. The Miata and S2000 are not sport compacts. If anything they would be roadsters.

 

OK, I will accept roadster, but not sports car. Just because a car has 2 doors and can handle, does not mean it is a sports car. You need power along with the handling, which is something those roadsters lack.
