BMW 135i vs 335i
I think you're missing my point. BMW isn't making the faulty fuel pumps.
I really think German cars in general now are too obsessed with luxury, which creates higher weight and prices. Except Porsche, they are the light and the way. If all cars took Porsche's lead and focused their line up more we'd see better products, BMW is spread too thin right now. Back on topic, OP have you thought about going Japanese? (370Z, '11 STi, RX-8) Apparently the '11 Sti is supposed to be really good (if commercials and Nurburgring lap times are to be believed)
But BMW should be more aware of what they're putting in their cars. If I had BMW's rep I'd be damn sure that everything that wasn't designed and made in-house was perfect, or at least up to par with BMW standards, 6 fuel pump failures in 3 years is unacceptable even for a German car.
Yeah but they have control over the specs and quality control. MB started to throw their weight around, which is why the MB branded fuel injectors are now good and why the MB branded Bosch spark plug wires are much better than the Bosch branded spark plug wires.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My friend said I should just hold out and take a look at the 1 Series M and the 335is next year.
So sigh...1 Series M vs 335is??

335is... but that's not gonna be within your $40k cap.
... and actually i haven't read anything on the 1 m yet, official at least. didn't seem too mind-blowing when i first heard of it though.
