If he didn't have insurance many times the hospitals will try to collect from the family, but in extreme cases they will write it off as bad debt. I hope they can get that worked through as painlessly as possible.
This is true... They *have* to write off a certain amount each year from what I was told. Let's hope, if needed, they choose this one.

I didn't have insurance when i had my double brain surgery, i was in ICU for a week,and my bills have reached just under 100k, i can't imagine what it would be like in this case, but i hope the hospital takes care of this bill it would be sad to see a family lose their child and then get hit with a massive bill
