Driftwater 10 - 3/27/11
If you were so concerned you would have said something yesterday...instead of waiting to tell him on here..just saying...
Broke Neck: I really dont know which I like better now...I love grip driving with you guys and I really would love to track VIR in like a time attack or whatever....but after practicing drifting and now finally having the balls to apply it at a track...Im lost
Spoiler

Im not trying to turn it into a bickering war or anything like that. If you felt UNSAFE on track I appologize, but again we were all driving each others cars, like we do each time we go out. So if your in this video and felt unsafe .... I appologize.
Miatas are momentum cars, when im stuck behind you for a few laps, because your not pointing, and figure out where your going slower .... im going to take advantage of that. Mainly braking zones. I also enjoy that type of on track expericance.
Like AIK, id start in the back just to work my way through traffic.
Z33 - My buddy AJ (red miata and black turbo miata) also has a blue TT 350Z hes pretty decent at sliding. Its a blast I cant tell you either way haha.
I had fun anyways and look forward to being back to the next event. It appears I have Z33's panties in a bunch here so Ill just stop. See you all out there next time.
Driftwater promotes cheap and fun seat time on a technical course for both grip and drift drivers, which it delivers.
Then you have misunderstood.
Then here is the problem. Let’s solve this by clarifying what happens when a faster car is behind you instead of driving close and/or reckless.
As do I.
Id hate to see someone get hurt cause they broke a balljoint and slammed into a tire wall
Id hate to see someone get hurt because a wheel broke and they slammed into a tire wall
Id hate to see someone get hurt because they hit some of the rocks on the track and lost control of their car and flipped.
Anything can happen on a track is all im saying.

No one is upset, I’m just cautious at how these events evolve. I have also attended many Driftwaters and always leave satisfied, just looking to keep it that way.
These comments are not* all directed at you but others that think Driftwater is a complete, do-whatever-no-one-cares-event. I love seeing yours and other miatas fly around the track and hope to for many events to come thanks to Dan’s and Nick’s hard work.
Your skills and abilities as a driver may be ahead of others. I don’t want someone inexperienced to hit me because they saw you follow or pass on a turn without knowing the full story.

I think during the "drivers meetings" new people might be too shy or scared to ask questions. Just give a brief overview of the passing/point-by/track etiquette/etc every time...I'm sure the regulars won't mind the extra few minutes of instruction if it may prevent an accident on track.
Btw, Terry was really sad he couldn't make it...we are still finding problems with the Evo from last Driftwaters mishap haha.

A blinker?
Where in road racing do they use blinkers?
Even in hpde u give a point.
Hell watch the video. The white miata in front going to the straight hit his blinker on accident after getting loose. Then pulled me in the straight. The happens a bit so could be very confusing.
My open passing comment ... letme clarify ... weve always been told to use our best judgement out there when itcomes to passing. At the time i see another lemons team in mustang in frontof me. A jetta and a miata and evo ..... all of which running in a tight group. If they were that comfortable on tjat track to run that close my judgment said they were probally pretty aware of whats going on. And being all the windows were up .... there was a lack of points.
Flite worded my description of why we attend perfectly.
Not a single person came to any of us askin us to guve them a little more space. Again we would gladly obliged.
Maybe the next event do like nasa does with rookies. Bright orange rear liscens plates. We know they are new to track and gladly give them all the room they want.
We will have to agree to disagree on our outlook of the event and reasoning for us being there.
Remember .... rubbin is racin
..... oh wait .... there was no rubbin

I did approach a couple of guys and point out some issues I had with their driving. There were no arguments, no ill feelings, nothing. Don't be afraid to speak up if you have a question about someone's driving. This is an amateur event... there are no corner workers, officials (maybe dan
), or flag towers. We all as drivers have to look out for our own interests and each others. Sonomadrifter, you said a couple people voiced some displeasure... if that's the case, be sure to tell them speak up and either tell the person, or let Dan know. We all appreciate the opportunity to drive an event like that, so everybody should be very civil. If I had been the driver pissing people off by following too close (it's entirely possible too), I wouldn't have been upset at all if someone asked me to back off a bit.

That is actually a really really good idea, we could probably pick up some bright yellow magnet strips or something to slap on the novice cars. or something as simple as bright masking tape x's or something
