A testament to safety regulations, Hinson Motorsport’s twin-turbocharged Chevrolet Corvette Z06 flipped at over 230 mph while racing at The Texas Mile. The driver walked away from the crash.
Hinson was well on its way to breaking the 257 mph record this past Saturday when the Corvette lost traction, rolling once and coming to a stop upright on its wheels. According to Hinson, the twin-turbocharged Z06 it was running was rated at a maximum of 1428 real-wheel horsepower and 1150 pound-feet of torque, in a conservative tune.
Just before three o’clock in the afternoon, Hinson reported on its Facebook wall, “Driver is OK. Our record breaking Corvette was well on the way to raising the bar again when it left the track at over 230mph. The driver walked away and has been released from the hospital. The car rolled one time and landed back on the wheels. This a testament to following safety guidelines and building a safe car.”
There is a chance that high crosswinds may have played a part in the crash, as Hinson had decided to dial back its speed attempts on Friday because of them.
