Default 02 Explorer CV joint help

My girlfriend has an 02 Exploder (4x2), and it has a humming coming the rear end. I have deduced that it is a bad CV joint, due to the fact that you turn to the left and it get louder, and you turn to the right and it gets very quiet. My question is there is a way to tell which one it is by doing that (turning to see which gets louder or quieter), which way is for which axle? Thanks for the help!

sounds like a wheel bearing not a cv.... which ever side you put weight on such as turn left and it humms = right one. pretty sure they sell replacments as whole hub bolt off bolt on call it a day and pretty cheap for those fords too.

Yep, sounds like a wheel bearing most likely.

Hmmm, I actually thought that too, but I jacked it up and tried to moved the wheel around (grabbing the bottom and pulling it up) and it was rock solid. I'll look deeper into it to see if I can tell. Thanks guys.

A bearing can make a lot of noise without having any play that you can easily feel by hand.
