I drilled holes into multiple rails before, with how thick the rails are, and where the position of the hole is; nothing is structurally compromised.
Im pretty certain of this, because STOCK, the rails do have the same size hole, in the same spot (on opposite sides). If Recaro can drill holes into the sides of their rails for seat belt bracket placement, im sure the same could be done with another rail of good quality (thickness).
