This is going to sound like it goes against what I usually say, and seem counter-intuitive, but a last generation camaro can be had with an ls1 for cheap. A good set of tires and a few mods will make that car handle and the power of the ls1 will give it a phenomenal low end. Just something I have been thinking about lately.

I thought about that too. But I am not too sure that sticking 300hp under my heavy inexperienced foot would be very productive on a track.

I have a good friend who'd tracked a mildly modded (bolt ons, suspension, and C5 front brakes) LS1 Camaro...and I wouldn't recommend it. Power is great, ultimate grip is great, but it's hard on tires, hard on brakes, and generally feels pretty heavy. The C5 brake upgrade is a good idea...but it's not enough. Being that C5's eat rotors and pads, and then you add an even heavier and more front biased F-body into the mix, it's not the best combo.

WRX or Evo might fit your bill; both would be good 4-seat DDs and would be competitive locally. Mini Cooper may, as well.

Something else to consider is the ST reorg is mixing things up a bit, splitting ST into STF and STC and putting other cars specifically into STS, STX and STU. Scroll down to page 19: http://www.scca.com:8080/assets/11-f...k-nov-solo.pdf
