Getting the entire composite up to the proper temperature and following the correct temperature profile (for best physical properties with the resin being used) is a time consuming process and because the mold soaks up heat, and the composite is different thicknesses in different areas usually too.
But pre-preg kept at the proper temperature is good for quite awhile. For a project at work we just used some that was something ridiculously old, I want to say 10 years or so. Still works fine, insofar as the sheet was able to be cured, no idea what the tolerances ended up being on it.

The temperature thing is a big issue, in the first batch that was made the temperature sensor malfunctioned and the oven got way hotter than it was supposed to and the carbon fiber contracted more than expected

Most of the pre-preg I've used has a 6 to 8 month shelf life in storage, after that it can't be used for anything critical like aerospace parts. It's highly dependent on the resin system though. After 10 years you're lucky that it actually cured properly and didn't end up like layers of flaky pastry.

I'm wondering if the EBC will be a single part or multi-part resin system. I don't really know much about radiation cure polymers so I can't say. Really though the freezer storage life of a multi-part resin isn't a big deal with production parts at all because the material will get used so quickly and will probably be delivered as part of a just-in-time lean strategy.

More along the lines of the layers of scaly rust on a Cobra.

That's why they didn't use it for the mechanical grade parts, only electrical grade

Naturally for production, new stuff will be ordered. Unfortunately we're not doing anything really interesting with the CF, its just a two 3-ply sheets with rohacell between them. Some of the other stuff that lab has done is way more interesting, like making tubing for cooling out of CF (stuff in the middle of the picture). The stuff on the right is an CF/rohacell end plate with sapphire tooling for alignment.
