I think that's skewed. I love my HJC, but then again, I didn't get the super cheap one.

 

I'd guess most people get the cheap shitty ones.

I got one free with a bike once. It sucked.

 

My Exo-700 is getting a bit old and I'm thinking about spoiling myself with an Arai. I tried one on at a local shop and it felt great outta the box. Nice helmet. But... an EXO-750 is @ 1/2 the price.

 

I seem to wear out helmets pretty quickly, makes it hard to justify $400 on it.

 

got my exo1100 for $85 (plus 215 points on amazon.com) (prices are approximate, as this was a while ago).

JD power ratings are weird. you have people who are brand fanboys saying that "helmet X is the best thing ever! i let it fuck my daughter"... you have idiot cheap-asses saying "ugh, my 7 year old helmet Y cracked when I threw it off of a parking garage and the company won't replace it for free... 1 star!"

you get people who convince themselves that their expensive helmet is awesome, simply because it was expensive. you also get people with unrealistic expectations complaining that their $80 helmet doesn't have a feature that is "standard" on "other brand" despite the fact that everything "other brand" makes costs 4x as much.

does icon get great ratings because of features, quality, and protection or because squids really like the graphics and they have more commercials during the X-games?
