Anybody familiar with The New River Gorge area of West Virginia? Going out there in July for a friends birthday party and was thinking about taking a few extra days to try to wheel some light trails.
there are assholes on the trails out there....
*prepare for rant / trail story*
so the wife, my buddy, and myself head up to the mountains for a fun day of shooting. well a couple hours into it a guy walks up the trail (i had never been to where he came from) and he tells me
"my jeep got stuck would you mind helping me out? It should be no problem for you to get your truck out there it's just this one spot."
So i agree to help a fellow trail rider out and head out there... well its DEFINITELY not an easy ride out... 1-3ft of snow.... a straight 100 ft drop off to the left, and the worst part about it.... about a 20 degree slant TOWARDS the drop off.
well needless to say, after a couple hang ups, I get to his Jeep (which is a Rubicon on 35 MTs) and i'm on stock Michelin 33s, I get him pulled out but in the process I get stuck and my truck slides so my 2 left wheels are hanging off the cliffs edge.
so to keep my truck from going over, I take my tow chain and hook my front end up to a tree on the high side of the trail and ask him if he can pull me out... he's brings out rope.... fucking rope.
I told him theres no way my 10,000lb truck will get out with that.
so he says "i'm gonna go down the mountain, buy a tow chain, and come back" (keep in mind its a 45 minute drive back to town)
never comes back.
its dark.
search and rescue come, take my wife and i off the mountain, and we get a buddy to come pick us up.
go back the next day, spend 3 hours digging, putting chains on, and using a 2nd tow strap to make sure the rear doesnt slide off the mountain, and reversing up the trail, and we finally get it out...
worst. recover. ever.
