Question about buying a car in NC and bringing home to Suffolk?
Hello, I found a car that I want at a dealership in NC. I will not be trading anything in so it will be a fresh titling. Does anyone know how this would work? Would I have to pay sales tax in both states? I figure that I would register it in NC then come back here and xfer the title to Va. Also, I would be financing the car, does this add any difficulty? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't think you would have to pay both, and you definitely shouldn't have to register it in two states. You can print out a sheet on the DMV's site and show it to the cops if you get pulled driving it home from purchasing it. Then you take the info straight to the DMV and start that process. The dealer should be able to help you with this.

Yep, trip permit to pick it up, will pay tax when you title it in VA. I just bought a car from PA so went through the same thing.

Thanks for your feed back. Will do some further research. Sadly the car I was looking at got sold, but now I know and the vehicle I am looking for I may have to eventually travel for.
