try o2 sensors call me crazy but my car was acting similar to what you explain. I swapped out my front o2 sensor and it seems to not do it but I don't have enough driving time on it to really tell. I'll give you an update soon.

Do you have a catalytic converter on your car?

Has it been on your car the entire time you have had it turbocharged? Because it is possible that the extra fuel could have had adverse effects on it. I would normally trip the CEL though.

my hatch did the exact same thing when i swapped the b16 in. It ran fine when it was cold but as soon as it got warm it would bogg so bad and felt like it was misfiring all the time. Turned out i had to get the whole distributor replaced not just the cap and rotor. And i never had a problem after that.

I would check the Fuel pump to see if it has failed for any reason. Also the injectors/rails may need to be cleaned out. I would go there.

As for timing and the CEL, that depends, Some ECU's are designed to pull timing during certain phases of the engine running, i.e when you let off the gas under WOT, the ECU can pull timing.
