Default I lost my key

Man I had it last Saturday and now it is nowhere to be found. Is there anyway I can get a new key without having to change out the lockset? Can I bring the VIN and title etc to a dealer and have a new key made? I know you can do this with cars. Thanks for any help

Check with the dealer Im not too sure about that, but if not a lock smith can rekey it for you for about 50 bux.

you cannot use the VIN like a car, you'll need the key code, it should be a letter and two numbers, such as C20, E45

it can be found either on a metal tag that comes with the original set of keys, stamped on the original key itself(if you have a copy of an original that code is not the key code, its the code for the blank)... if you don't have any of those if its a newer bike a few dealers keep key codes on file if you know where it was purchased originally

if all else fails you need to remove the key lock cylinder, underneath the plastic cover will be stamped the key code itself... some places require proof of owner ship to cut a key, should run you 6-9$, you can also get a lock smith to cut one for you, but you'll have to get a blank from a dealership

Forget to mention what bike I hve sorry. Its a 95 Zx6r. So if I remove the lock\ignition, the code should be on there? Thanks for the info.
Also where are the Kawi dealers? Or is it any bike shop thats Kawi authorized?

you might want to call Kawi just to verify what i said, what i said applies to Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha, but i don't know for a fact Kawasaki, although I can't imagine it would be much different

all the locks that I have run across haas the code punched on the lock itself. This is also the same with cars too. If you bring the lock to a locksmith, they will more than likely not question you since the lock is out of the bike.
