For those who know Chris Schader
Update on Chris: Right now he is at a stand still. Isn't getting better but isn't getting worse. They will be doing a tracheostomy tomorrow. Hopefully test results will start coming in tomorrow. This was the last update i seen.
The tracheostomy is most definately what you want at this point. They'll probably also put what they call a peg tube (feeding tube) in through his stomach. My girlfriend calls it her "gunshot wound" since it has healed. The trach scar you can't notice unless you're *trying* to see it. But I remember the nurses all assuring me that it was a "very good" thing to have done (trach). Do they still have no real idea what is causing this? I'd imagine the orignial pnuemonia has got to be gone by now... =\
Sarah (g/f) sat idle for weeks before she was even at the point where the tracheostomy was a possibility. This is definately the time to believe that sometimes "No news is good news"

Update on Chris: Hoping to get test results today. They aren't doing the tracheostomy right now because the #'s on the ventilator are too high. They have to paralyze him again because he is trying to breathe over the ventilator which could cause damage to his lungs. I'll be at the hospital in a little bit so if there's anything new I'll update - from his sister
His sister sent me a text saying they opted against the Trachiotomy (sp) due to his ventalation numbers not being what they should be. They also sent him back into a coma because he is still unknowingly fighting the ventalator. Test results have yet to come back.
man putting him in a coma sucks, i wish he could some how know the ventilator is helping him, and stop fighting it
I'm not real sure who to PM this to, so I'll just lay it out here... When Sarah's vent setting did not allow her to get the trach operation, her doctors/nurses/therapist started to have daily meetings with eachother trying to brain storm ideas. One of her respiratory therapists came up with the idea of using a bronchodilator.
Sarah had been idle for weeks, she was not gaining any ground, or losing any... But her time on the ventilator was already beyond maxed out. It wasn't long AT ALL after they began the use of the bronchodilator that she started to make progress . I don't know if it's the percentage of oxygen that the vent is still supplying Chris, or if it's the amount of "PEEP" that's still required, but I would suggest having someone (maybe his sister, or a member of his family) bring this up.
