Brake temperatures can be much greater than those achieved by various parts of the engine. Remember that an engine is cooled (generally by water) while brakes are cooled only by air. Caliper temperatures can reach 220ēC where a rebuild between events is necessary. If they reach 260ēC, brake failure is imminent in most all cars outside of Formula1. By comparison, engine oil running at a sustained 110ēC is a bit high on the track.

That said, this is purely academic because there's little chance the car that is the subject of this will ever see temperatures that high, let alone sustained temperatures that high.
