If by "push" you actually mean to literally start the car, let it idle, and physically push it down the road, then yes you're correct. If you drive the Civic in the upper RPM ranges and actually try to drive the car hard, it will get dismal fuel mileage as well, down in the lower teens. Go take your Civic to a track day somewhere and report back what kind of mileage you get on a race track. I've had my Honda at quite a few track days and I got mileage below 10mpg....of course my Honda wasn't grocery getter as is the new (and old) Civic.

They are a great first car. But I still don't understand the whole point of modding a car that is ridiculously slow stock. Mainly 4 bangers. Can someone fill me in why it is so much fun to mod one? I'm actually interested.

ok let me put it this way, how many people on drag va that might actually buy this car would leave it stock? that is the whole point of customizing a car is to make it the way you want it. as for the weight issue the corvette someone was talking about weighs in at 3,179 pounds but granted it has 400 hp. but with little modification it is common to see a 2900 lbs civic with over 400 hp. everybody has to start somewhere with a shity car thats not fast as hell or looks the best on the street so i think the new civic is a great car for people that are getting their first car or who are new to the scene.
