have fun trying to shift that thing with shockproof... that shit is HEAVY... especially if you get the heavy duty stuff.

mix it with lightweight, what do you use for tranny fluid? I am beginning to see that gm syncromesh is just not gonna do it, so im looking for someting that protects the drivetrain a little better.

The redline does wear the synchros quicker. That's odd that he recommended that though, I seem to remember him being one of the guys that was heavily advising against it at one time due to the wear it caused. I know a lot of people have their own brews they run.. Mixing BG synchroshift and redline used to be a common old school idea... Personally I run synchromesh in my beater, since it's not making that much power really, and in the red car I run BG synchroshift II, the synthetic shit. Mine are 90 and 91 though, so I have the stronger 3rd and 4th gears in both of my trannies. If you have the weak 3/4 and a stroker I'd recommend going with something that is gonna protect the gears better.. just some sort of standard trans oil. Also remember that a fluid change isn't going to keep you from breaking or bending a rail or fork or anything like that. The different fluid will keep you from knocking the teeth off the gear with too much power. Unfortunately the oils that protect better make it shift worse. If you're not making more than 400whp I'd say stick with the synchroshift/synchromesh. If you're making more than that you may want to evaluate your options based on how you drive, and what parts are in your trans.

First time I've seen this thread. Figure I'll add my $0.02.

'91 GSX

GT35R, EMS, etc; 627whp.

Syncroshift, etc, is too thin. I use cheap 75w90 trans oil. I don't drag race, though, so that may explain why I haven't had any problems using that oil.

i want something this isnt going to tear my tranny apart, make it shift well, and handle the power im going to be making. itsa shep stage 4 so i it will handle the power. shep is telling me to use it because redline sponsors his can now. so that may have a little to do with it he told me to mix 50/50 mt-90 and shockproof. what abomt bg2 and shockproof? im thinking the less redline the better. mabey im wrong.

The thing about tranny fluid and really any oil going into the internals of a motor is that you won't see any negative affects until you put some mileage on it. Positive comments or recommendations will be biased towards parts that stay together, withstand alot of power, with no ill effects. When I bought my tranny he recommended GM syncroshift, as it protects your syncros better and is capable of holding reasonable power like high psi said. I've run gm syncroshift/ BG syncroshift for 20k or more miles and no problems, but it's also a built shep tranny. I guess the real test will be when I run 35psi/ maybe a 100shot on it and see how tranny reacts , actually I'm curious how the whole engine/ drivetrain reacts.
