VMP has a lot of space. Not sure how much space is needed for a track that won't host Large Events like that though,
"Virginia Motorsports Park is the largest and fastest growing motorsports entertainment facilities on the east coast. Situated on 700 acres this multi-million dollar complex includes a ¼ mile drag strip, luxury VIP Corporate Suites, Tower and state of the art media facilities, seating for 23,000 and over 60 acres pit parking, 35 of it paved. With its own lake, and trackside motor coach and RV Park alongside the dragstrip. Virginia Motorsport Park is located in central Virginia just 30 minutes south of Richmond in Dinwiddie County.

I think that if there was a drag strip opened somewhere it should be in the smithfield, suffolk area, there is tons of land over there to build a drag strip!

I did a little searching on the web for info about Creeds... Check out this page:

'70's Funny Cars

and do a search for "Creeds" on the page. It gives the name of one of the old promoters of Creeds. I think he is still local. He might be an interesting source for finding someone that has experience in running a drag strip and asking them for advice.

According to the guys that run the autocrosses at Pungo (ODR)there some big changes for that place.

I'm sure some of you know that the owner of Abacus Racing owns the Pungo airstrip and I have heard from a reliable source that he plans on removing all of the woods out there and repaving. Covered bleachers, autocross course, and 4x4/ mud bog course is supposed to be out there and there has also been talks of a drag strip and a small road course included also.

Maybe we should try contacting this guy since he already owns the land and he has already started clearing trees. The paving machines are just sitting out there waiting to be used. I'm sure if he was aware that it would be a profitable project then who knows.

agreed

out by me there is plenty of property, were 35 minutes from newport news. 35 minutes from va beach. 25 from norfolk and chesapeake. also property value is good out here and the general attitude is kind of 'dukes of hazardish' if you know what i mean. good luck on getting anything going in newport news / hampton because of its overpopulatedness. out here in isle of wight everyone has a damn glider so i know there are a few old air strips around somewhere. tomorrow during lunch at work i'll make a few calls. itd be best if we just went with an air strip type deal or expansion of a pre-existing track because building a full scale race facility is something a contracting company spends years planning and we really have zero funding for that. plus i like the simplicity of an airstrip with a couple bleachers (that me or someone else could build and donate) an announcing booth (that me or someone else could build and donate) a tree and concession stand. theres no need to get way ahead of ourselves with some unachievable idea of a 10 million dollar raceway. just a thought...

building them is definitely no problem. bleachers are cheesecake. plus, it also adds to save us more money if this goes through

Relating to Pungo.... There is just not enough property there to build a drag strip. The Abacus owner who also own Pungo is a good guy, great guy actually, but I just can't see a drag strip as possible.

my dad works for mercedes-benz so he knows all the MB dealers in the area. i could ask him to see if any dealers, or MB the corporation, would be interested in having some sort of sponsorship in this plan.

This is jumping to conclusinos but if this were to happen then here is some help I can add for finding possible sponsers:

Casey-I am can speak with the man behind Mr. Casey about a possible sponsership.
Hutchens Chevy- hes my godfather.
Pomoco- close friends father
Fergusion Enterprises- has a racing section and I am very very close with the person who runs this. It is primarily with nascar type deals but I can see them being interested as a huge sponser.

If we would need some help finding an area my dad is in Real Estate and I can ask him about some of the costs and areas that could possibly be good to start this project.

If we were to prepare something like this to the city would we want the sponsers already in line to help back us up in court or would we wait to mention this to them until after we are approved?
