eh.. if someone says its a truck motor i will shoot them. Damn SCC for that stupid ass article. Anyways, personally I would rather have a sr (I've had about 5-6) and I have driven a ka-t. I htink the fact that the sr is a factory turbo motor has great appeal to most people.

Sr's on average are more reliable than ka-t. Why? Because ka-t owner (like every other 240 owner) are cheap as hell. So *most ka-t set-ups are junkyard parts or done half assed ect.. Now when you are going to turbo a n/a motor it's not always the greatest idea to half-ass a turbo kit for it. Especially in the area of engine management. This is where even if a sr swap is half-assed (which most are) the sr shines. Since the motor/ecu are factory tuned for turbo, they CAN be more reliable. There are also other reasons.. such as SR has about 100000000000x's more aftermarket support ect ect ect.. Anyways, nothing wrong with a ka-t done right, it's just that most arn't.
thats true, but now you got shops like full race and st00pids shop from texas who are into building ka's now have realized the way to go..sr20's are good if you want a basic swap with boltons and call it a day, or imo there good for drift cars..but if you want to be fast drag car ka-t would be my choice...maybe a sr20ve..but those swaps are rare and you dont see many boosted besides the suv motor which is the sr20vett

You know, the funny thing is.. I have talked with a lot of KA-T owners on FA and other friends I know, and they generally say if they had to do it over again they would go SR. Up to 300hp stock KA's are great... start pushing that hp limit and becareful. I'm nto saying a stock interal KA can't make more than 300 i'm just saying it's rare.

yes there good with the factory turbo, but slap on a bigger turbo and try to find some power..you really dont..you hardley see a sr20 in the 500whp range, not saying you dont but most of them i see are in the high 400whp..

I will agree on the reliability issue for now. They do require much more maintenance. But, most of the ka-t owners that I've talked to have done their setups very nice with no junkyard shit at all. But to each their own!

KA stock internals are garbage, trust me i use to be a big sr20 fan to..ka stock i would say couldnt go above 400-420whp the rods wont hold it..but if you throw in aftermarket rods and pistons, the block is already sleeved your gonna have yourself a beast ass motor..but then i guess its what your friends were lookin for a drag race/road race/drift car...more of the 240's out there i see are into road racing or gay ass drifting, in which i think the sr20 would be more appropiate, but when it comes to drag racing i would have to go with the KA any day of the week

Umm every sr I know of with a bigger turbo is making 300+ I mean hell even t3/t4 sets up (cheap to put togeather) are making 350+

Like I said most 240 owners (ie 99% of them) are cheap bastards. So they stick to what is cheap,(stock turbo or s14/15 upgrade) But there are a number of sr's even on this site which are making close to 500 if not over.

I was saying stock internals vs stock internals... obviously once you upgrade internals both motor have enormous potnetial.

It is very rare for them to be higher than that, and from what the rumor is, the stock rods are good for up to 400/450 but I have yet to hear of anybody that is pushing around that number that has damaged a rod. At 15psi I was around 340 and I had no problems whatsoever.

I don't know about either one of you guys, but I'd fucking piss myself if I had 400whp. I wouldn't know wtf to do with it.
