Toyota FJ Cruiser or Ford Edge?
Yeah, I love the way lifted FJs look, but I think the Edge is going to be better suited for my needs. I really want navigation and I'm pretty sure four doors is a prerequisite too. Combine that with the fact that the Edge is more powerful, has a better transmission and gets better fuel economy, it makes me lean more towards the Edge. I'm not ruling either vehicle out though until I drive both of them though.
Well, I just returned back from a test drive on the Ford Edge. I drove a Limited model that had everything but a navigation system and despite that, I can say I was overwhelmed at how nice the vehicle was. The model I drove had leather seats (contrasting stitching) and leather on every surface you touch, automatic dual climate control, automatic headlights, automatic mirrors and rear back up sensors. Automatic lift gate, AWD, rear entertainment, trip computer, 20 inch wheels and Sync. It averaged about 20MPG in the city and on Hampton Roads Center Pkwy averaged about 25MPG at about 60MPH. The power was incredibly smooth and the shifting was predicable, equally smooth and precise from the six speed automatic. I could see it having no trouble at all pulling my trailer. I still want to drive an FJ for comparison, but as it stands, I think the FJ is going to have big shoes to fill. I'm certain I want a navigation system, now though. The salesman showed me a equal navigation system that was in a F150 so I could get an idea of what it would look like in an Edge and I was impressed. They even fold down so you can utilize the six disc changer.
The lack of navigation, four doors, lower fuel economy/horsepower and a much inferior interior is making me want to rule out the FJ completely.

I was shotgun on said test drive. there's almost no road noise, the pirelli tires ride superbly, the car holds the road accelerates, brakes and overall rides so smoothly and efficiently. the ergonomics are wonderful, all of the features and accesories are reachable/ controllable with most not even diverting your eyes off the road. none of the features require techniques or elbow grease, even the rear seats fold down without a struggle. in the test driven models case, the touch of a button.
very roomy with effortless entry and exit, top notch fit and finish. I was impressed with the Edge.
