Actually you can find LS1's for 8-9k all day long now. SS's are still higher priced, but around 16, not 18. WS6's go for 17+ however.

And a 2001 SS for 18k will have less than 20k miles on it usually, compared to a 1997 Supra with 120k for 18k.

Oh, I've been saying that for a few years. 4.0 I6 turbo, RWD, 4 doors. Think 4 door grand national when it is equipped with an automatic, 10's are $5000 away.

or do what most people on here do, is buy a $2500 "econo-sports" car and put alot of money into making it faster.
LS1s can be found for 8-9k on the reg these days. but if it came down to it id be behind the wheel of a 94 supra tt before a 01 LS1. they are just gangster ass cars. im just pissed that japan hasnt released anything like that recently. when im driving around i dont really worry about any non high-profile import cars unless they are modded supras or the very few high hp RX7s. now if i come up on a z06, cobra or modded c5 it's different. theres just not enough high power supras running around anymore.

When you refer to technology what are you referring to exactly? DOHC, Variable valve timing, or perhaps turbos? If thats what you are referring to none of those are anything new. DOHC have been around since the 1920's. The Ford Model T has a DOHC motor. Fiat if I am not mistaken was one of the first car makers to use variable valve timing and turbos have been around who knows how long.

Also...

Not to mention the government laws that they have to deal with ie the 280hp deal.
It was a gentlemen's agreement, not a law. Also it had nothing to do with actual horsepower. The agreement was that no manufacture would state a HP rating over 280hp however many made cars over that. It was all about perception.

This whole argument is funny to me because you have people on both sides that are extremely bias and unable to truly appreciate great cars regardless of make, model or origin.

Personally, I could care less who makes the car. I happen to LOVE Evo's and Supra's. I even have a soft spot for RX7's, provided they're fitted with the appropriate v8 motor of course. I'm a car enthusiast, no matter the make, model, whatever, I enjoy reading about, learning about, and driving/racing different cars. Hell I'm probably one of the stoutest RWD V8 supporters on this site, and I bought a front wheel drive turbocharged 4 cylinder car.

I just hate it when someone talks out of their ass about how American cars are a direct result of Japanese R&D, when all of the "Japanese R&D" has been around for the past 60+ years, and wasnt invented by any Japanese auto manufacturer. And contrary to popular belief, american manufacturers are NOT still using motors from 1960. Thats like saying that every inline 4cylinder that honda has ever produced is the same, when its clearly incorrect.

Give it another year or two.. 01 and 02 LS1 cars will go for 10-12k. That's what im waiting for . Unless of course GM get's it's head out of it's ass and brings back somthing to compete with the Mustang. I have to give it to ford, they are building exciting cars in affordable price ranges.
