Actually you can find LS1's for 8-9k all day long now. SS's are still higher priced, but around 16, not 18. WS6's go for 17+ however.
And a 2001 SS for 18k will have less than 20k miles on it usually, compared to a 1997 Supra with 120k for 18k.

or do what most people on here do, is buy a $2500 "econo-sports" car and put alot of money into making it faster.

Also...
Not to mention the government laws that they have to deal with ie the 280hp deal.
This whole argument is funny to me because you have people on both sides that are extremely bias and unable to truly appreciate great cars regardless of make, model or origin.
Personally, I could care less who makes the car. I happen to LOVE Evo's and Supra's. I even have a soft spot for RX7's, provided they're fitted with the appropriate v8 motor of course. I'm a car enthusiast, no matter the make, model, whatever, I enjoy reading about, learning about, and driving/racing different cars. Hell I'm probably one of the stoutest RWD V8 supporters on this site, and I bought a front wheel drive turbocharged 4 cylinder car.
I just hate it when someone talks out of their ass about how American cars are a direct result of Japanese R&D, when all of the "Japanese R&D" has been around for the past 60+ years, and wasnt invented by any Japanese auto manufacturer. And contrary to popular belief, american manufacturers are NOT still using motors from 1960. Thats like saying that every inline 4cylinder that honda has ever produced is the same, when its clearly incorrect.

. Unless of course GM get's it's head out of it's ass and brings back somthing to compete with the Mustang. I have to give it to ford, they are building exciting cars in affordable price ranges.
