if this idea has been brought up please disregard.
instead of getting a petition together and taking it to the prospective city why dont you take it to prospective sponsors. so they have an idea of what kind of profit they can expect.

you cant just build a 1/8 mile track think about dinwidde after the timed strip theres probably another1/4 mile ore so to slow down ? it has to be atleast a 1/4 mile or longer if your doing an1/8 strip

While I agree with you about the local community's needs, but the only way to sell things like this to the local city governments (who ultimately have to approve it) is to sell them on bringing in some sort of tourism. Race tracks are not thought of as good things by the sorrounding communities. They have reputations (justified or not) of being noisy, bringing in bad things to their area, polluting the environments, causing injuries, etc. Local residents mobilize to oppose race tracks everywhere. Many of them only vote for city councils in opposition to things like this. What does that tell you when a bunch of (what the councils see as) reckless kids come in front of them asking for a vote on this. To oppose it you have to get local corporations and important people behind you. You also have to give the councils some reason to support you as opposed to those "resident voters" that will surely oppose it. The most profitable things to local communities is attracting tourists. To get tourists you have to have some big events that will attract people from out of town that will need to rent hotel rooms, visit resturants, etc. That unfortunately takes big facilities and big events. The other possibility is to sell the low budget facility as a startup with the plans to grow it to a major facility. The success of the "tuner" events that are weekend parties can make this sale, but it is harder than a big spectator event like National event drag races.

I agree with you Calvin, a small facility will get run out. The local gov'ts will want to see a steady revenue stream. It will need to bring money into the city without burdening city infrastructure.

Two of the most active groups in the area for lobbying gov't officials in favor of car related legislation are the car club councils (Car Club Council of Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula Car Club Council). Both have monthly meetings and have existing contacts with city and state officials. I attend these meetings periodically and encourage some of you to go as well. A united front can present a more solid argument. Contact info as follows:

Hal Hartel, President: hardhar123@aol.com
Meetings: 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Newport News/Wbg Airport

http://www.ccchr.org/
Bill Laurent, President: president@tidewatermoparclub.com
Meetings: Last Tuesday of each month at an auto dealership on Military Hwy. Can't remember which one offhand, but I will find out for anyone interested.

if we would get a 1/4 track it would bring in more tourism cuz everybody likes seeing cars go fast down a track and they lyke the excitment so we should try and get wavy 10 on our side and everyone get 2geather so ppl out there know we are trying 2 be safe now and not do alot of things stupid thats just my 2 cents on it all it would be sweet if this all happens
