Building a sanctioned drag strip in the 757.
if this idea has been brought up please disregard.
instead of getting a petition together and taking it to the prospective city why dont you take it to prospective sponsors. so they have an idea of what kind of profit they can expect.

i think you naysayers are forgetting that this isnt supposed to be a highclass dragstrip. just a hang out just like any other "spot" that has a strip. that cuts out alot of the big costs. you wouldnt even need timing and displays in the beginign. just who gets to the end first in true "street racing" fashion. no that won't cut down on the precautions that wil have to be taken. but it keeps it for the most part. feasible.

I agree with you Calvin, a small facility will get run out. The local gov'ts will want to see a steady revenue stream. It will need to bring money into the city without burdening city infrastructure.
Two of the most active groups in the area for lobbying gov't officials in favor of car related legislation are the car club councils (Car Club Council of Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula Car Club Council). Both have monthly meetings and have existing contacts with city and state officials. I attend these meetings periodically and encourage some of you to go as well. A united front can present a more solid argument. Contact info as follows:

Hal Hartel, President: hardhar123@aol.com
Meetings: 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Newport News/Wbg Airport

Bill Laurent, President: president@tidewatermoparclub.com
Meetings: Last Tuesday of each month at an auto dealership on Military Hwy. Can't remember which one offhand, but I will find out for anyone interested.

While I agree with you about the local community's needs, but the only way to sell ..... a whooole bunch of more talking.....are weekend parties can make this sale, but it is harder than a big spectator event like National event drag races.

here's my two cents - my auntie is a sherrif in california. we spoke about -their- drag strips a while ago... and from what i remember -
saturday nights. its the -main- hip spot. cops -are- there. ambulance(s) ARE standing by. (very important) race, race, race..... kick everyone out at a certain time, see ya next week.
i'll call her this weekend, see what specific's i can drag out of her...
sung...i respect u alot for comming up with this idea/thread or whatever you would like to call it. Its a great idea and it woudl be great if it could fall through. I dont have a ton of conections but im sure my dad does and i could sure talk to him about it. He knows alot of high ranking government people in richmond cuz of his work so i could maybe get some talk from them to see what they say. sung: if u have anything u would like me to ask my dad to ask people in richmond...please let me know online or somethin...ill be more then happy to talk to him and beg him to tlak to "people". I realy hope this all works out and ill do what i can to help.
I vote sung for pres.!

I say we prganize a get together and get 10 on your side out in this piece and have a talk with um...i think it will get the ball rolling and of course being ona 6 oclock in hampton roads would probabaly help alot.
if we would get a 1/4 track it would bring in more tourism cuz everybody likes seeing cars go fast down a track and they lyke the excitment so we should try and get wavy 10 on our side and everyone get 2geather so ppl out there know we are trying 2 be safe now and not do alot of things stupid thats just my 2 cents on it all it would be sweet if this all happens
