Building a sanctioned drag strip in the 757.
the plan to use a pre-existing strip/area is a good idea but if worse comes to worse and it will be necessary to clear and level land i could go to the guys in my shop at the Richmond Air National Guard base.
I work in the Heavy Equipment and Pavements shop of the 192CE squadron and all the guys in there are certified on all kinds of construction equipment. The National Guard is always known for it's volunteer work, and the shop went up to NOVA last month to clear 7 or 8 acres of land. The guys are always looking to get in some extra stick time and training, and since i go to basic in 2 days i'll be fully certified when i come back and able to volunteer as much time as necessary.
i doubt it will be necessary since we are attempting to find a pre-existing area but a fall back never hurts.

Here's a ligitimate idea. If you want to add some safety features, someone start looking into pricing of some concrete dividers. This way, you don't have cars running into each other or the crowd. That's bound to save on the insurance mentioned above as well!
Fentress Airfield allready has jet noise till 12PM...And they do touch and go landings which you have to hav a 1/4 mile todo that....Just an idea.....Its in the middle of nowhere too...
As for the legalities why not ask for the support of these advocates against street racing . com's......If they did it, is possible....This may not be SD but it is still America.....
As for the money......I got 5 on it...lol......

you cant just put a drag strip anywhere that there is a 1/4 mile of open land....drag strips can only run north/south...due to the sun rise and fall it cant run east west... and i think the 10 on your side would be a great idea.. sorta like a drag va meet only with the news there....c'mon sung i know tyou can set it up!!!!
Ok, now after reading all 10 pages of this discussion.....I just wanna say that Sung, you've got my full support. And I know my dad's got some contacts in the area and stuff. Mainly with all of the businesses and whatnot, so I'll see what I can do there. And if there's anything else I can do, just say the word.
And I know some of this is just repeditive, but I don't care. This is all just my opinion.....
A drag track in the 757 would be just........amazing. Its definately not gonna come easy though. And we're gonna need massive amounts of support.
My first thought for a location was either Suffolk or Pungo. Both have tons of space (Suffolk more than Pungo though). Using a pre-existing strip sounds like the most effective approach fund-wise. And just seems a little more sensable than starting from scratch. A huge problem that we'd eventually run into, like someone said earlier, would be housing developments popping up everywhere. In the beginning, we'd pick a location for the strip that would be in the middle of nowhere in a sense. But eventually, the houses are gonna come. Who would wanna live next to a loud drag strip is besides me, but hell, people live right beside air bases......so I don't know..........not trying to be negative towards the effort by any means. Just another damn hurdle to jump.
So yea.............that was alot and mad rambling. So sorry if it doesn't make too much sense, but its too late for me to be thinking........Oh well.....And by the way...
1. How's the site coming?
2. What's up with a fundraiser or event or whatever?
MIKE
