I don't think its ugly at all, looks like a Bill Lane style chop, but more reliable I bet.
Frame just looks like it was simply big enough to house the motor than being build around it. Thats where they really failed on the design, chopper frames have plenty of space for just about any motor but just because it fits never means it'll look correct.
Thats the problem I'm having with my CB750 with the CBR600 motor, the CBR motor is roughly the same size but in order to accommodate the angle of the carbs, the radiator, and the air box I'm having to do a lot of fab work for everything to look like it's at home there and not just rigged up.
But that sounds like a super fun project actually. I saw a guy in a God-honest, completed cb750 cafe bike. I think I stopped the car in the middle of an intersection for a split second. Bike looks like a damn blast.
