Lets say you have an off at VIR and get stuck in the mud but the car's not wrecked or anyting... then they hook up the tow strap or chain to that spot... hello paint damage.

So... even in a "show" car made up to look like a "race" car why have the tow hook there... I've never seen a race car w/ it there.

 

Iv seen plenty of cars with tow hooks right there that work just fine without any paint damage. The strap doesn't even come close to hitting the hood while its in tow. I think its almost a better location then near the front bumper because if he does bury it into a wall more then likely the course workers will still have a quick an easy place to pull it out of the wall and tow it to the pits.

 

Gotcha... but that's why most track cars have front and rear tow hooks.

 

Duh, its so he can tie balloons to his hood hook when he goes to parties.
