I can't think of any imports for the price range that compete, otherwise I would have listed them.

GT500 - Will come out with "market adjustment" to make the total price near 65-70k, which is a ripoff for any Mustang, once it settles where it should, near $40k, then it won't be beat for the $.
C6 ZO6 - These cost quite a bit more from what I've heard, near $70k which I believe might hurt the sales but I think this will probably be quicker than the Shelby and RT-10
Viper RT-10 - Beautiful car, and my favorite out of all of them, but they aren't real popular now, so I doubt it will change.
My vote for $ for $ will be the ZO6, until the Ford drops the prices. Although I'm not a big fan of the C6, looks like a chode on wheels, it's short and fat.

Alright, I retract my statement about Ford. If you're not an enthusiast, it's hard to understand the love for the older RWD cars. But it seems that Ford has helped to "modernize" Volvos since their takeover. I think it's funny that the platform for the new S40 is also used in the Focus and Mazda 3.
Here is one issue I have with the Ford thing though:
This is the S80 that's expected to come out. Doesn't look cool to me, looks like a fucking pontiac (well at least in the "camo").
I hope future Volvos don't follow this trend.

Shelby cobra gets my vote. MSRP for cobra hair under 40k. Z06 MSRP over 70k. Pulley and and tune will easily net you 600+ on the cobra. It already has a solid rear axle twin-screw, and a 5.4 in it. I am fast car buff and have owned both a mean stang and am building a nice f-body, but those shelby running around are going to be terror, because they are so affordable. The question will be what dealer markups will be. I know both GM and Ford like to hike them at least 5k when a new model comes out.
