widening steelies actually isnt that expensive.. I've read some companies quote anywhere form 200 to 300 to widen a set.
300 max (I say max bc steelies can be had for free/cheap) for a wide set of steelies is nto bad.. I want a set myself..
It really depends on what kind of car they go on. My next car that I plan on giving the whole hellaflush treatment to will be an RX-8, which would look horrible on widened steelies. Rather, I plan on doing 17"x9" +15mm up front and 17"x10" +12mm rear 5-zigen FN01R-C's 225/45/17F/245/45/17R Falkens. Of course, a good bit of camber, as well as some rolling/pulling to accomodate the setup too I'm so stoked to start the project!
Do you know any good company's that do it? Maybe I can get some widened 17's
Noone off the top of my head. When that xb was first posted I got curious myself to see how much widened steelies were and searched "widening steelies" into google. Random VW threads I found had people talking of shops in CA that do it for anywhere form 75 to 90 a wheel.
I think Ima try to look for a company local here. I swear to god I remember reading a thread here with a guy asking the same question..
17"x9" +0 eh? Haha badass. Yeah, I wish 5-zigen made the FN01R-C's in an 18"x9"/18"x10" size, but they only do a 8.5"/9.5" width for that diamater. Thats why im choosing to go with a 17" b/c even though I could run a really low offset on the 18"s, I want that extra .5" all around. I mean in the whole stance scene, if your not running at least a 10" wide wheel in the rear, then your not really going big. But the 17"s will at least keep it low to the ground....but I am gonna stretch a full size tire. The idea of running a 40 profile tire on the 17"s did cross my mind, but with the front lip I plan on running, i'm not sure I could kill all the fender gap with a 40 profile tire, even with the Stance GR+ coilovers, b/c the front lip will already be touching the ground pretty much. Gotta get a nice blend of flushness and a low body.
Oh, and mind you, I don't have the RX-8 yet, but i'm already starting to stockpile parts for it. I'm just waiting on the right example to present itself on Autotrader/here/craigslist.
