The Riverstone Chop House
http://www.riverstonechophouse.com/restaurant.php
8032 Harbour View Blvd. Suffolk, VA 23435
Lunch: Monday–Friday, 11 am–2 pm
Dinner: Monday–Saturday, from 5 pm
Telephone: 888.638.7990
Very good steaks, with family style side dishes. This is the sister restaurant to The Vintage Tavern, also in Suffolk. It's a very nice restaurant (opened just 2-3 weeks ago) and it not for the faint of wallet.

Yama Shushi Bar
(757) 428-5888
1485 General Booth Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA
The best on the east coast for sushi. There is a wait but it is without a doubt worth every second. A definate date place to impress the ladies.

Name: The Vintage Tavern
Location: 1900 Governors Pointe Drive Suffolk, Virginia 23436
Number: 757-238-8808
I would easily put it in the top 5 restauants in the area. They have what is probably the best wine collection in the state and the food and experience is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the bison ribeye. Expect to pay about $80-$90 per person with drinks. Last time I went it was $180 before tip for two of us with a bottle of decent wine and a couple glasses after we finished that. Reservations required.

Re: Official Good Restaurants in the 757
Can we break this into two stickys, maybe one southside and one peninsula....?
Name: The Melting Pot
Location: Newport News, Jefferson Ave, across the street from Patrick Henry
Website: http://www.meltingpot.com/location.aspx?q=53
Reservations: A MUST!!! (757) 369-9500
Honestly, a fantastic restaurant, even though I believe it is a chain. The menu is a bit one the pricy end, but you get soooo much food for the money. The service was great. Our waitress walked us through the whole meal. Had a great time, I'd recommend it for anyone. Make sure you have time though, meal took us almost 3 hours.

Re: Official Good Restaurants in the 757
I have three awesome places to add:
Thaijindesu
Location: Port Warwick, Newport News
Number: (757) 595-8410
Best Thai food + Sushi in the area. Ken, the owner, owned Pettaya in Yorktown. He spends most of the night making Sushi and will regularly give sushi appetizers to guests because he wants to make them. The food is always outstanding and the price is not bad. I love getting lunch there, $15ish with sushi and entre. The setting is really upscale and there are always a lot of business people there wearing ties, but I never feel out of place in jeans and a T-shirt. Reservations don't hurt, but I've never waited.
Opus 9
Location: Newtown, Williamsburg
Number: (757) 645-4779
http://www.opus9steakhouse.com/index.php
This is a really up-scale place, it's expensive and for good reason. I've only been there once, and can't really say how good the service was because my friend served us. I had a fillet mignon, rare, and their ahi appetizer. The steak was cooked just enough, but nothing more than rare. The appetizers, bread, etc was all outstanding. They have a hell of a menu and, from what my dad said, a hell of a wine list. We went here for my birthday, 6 of us, the bill was $350 or $450 I think.... with a $100 bottle of wine. I wouldn't spend that money on a single dinner, but I wasn't paying!!
Food for thought

This place is really cool. Food is not expensive, it has a really chill environment, light lighting and music. There are famous quotes over everything. Bread is really good, I can't figure out what it is, but it's good. Sides are a little weird but the entres make up for it. Desserts are really good too! Services is really good, food always gets there quickly and cooked right.

Schlesinger's Chop House
Port Warwick, Newport News(1106 William Styron Square South, Newport News, VA 23606)
757-599-4700
http://www.schlesingerssteaks.com/
Excellent steakhouse. Upscale in a Ruths Chris vein. Outstanding wine list...was selected by Wine Spectator as an award winner. The wife had the Filets which were done to perfection and I enjoyed the New York strip au poivre, deglazed with Brandy. Finished with a Green Peppercorn and Brandy Cream Sauce.
For dessert, we shared a Chocolate Punctuation while the wife had a nice 10yr old Port and I enjoyed a 18 yr old Macallan.
They also have an excellent cigar bar.
Service was perfect and they have a 1/2 price wine especial on Sundays

Re: Official Good Restaurants in the 757
Name - Steinhilber's
Location - 653 Thalia Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23452
Number - (757) 340-1156
www.steinys.com
Arguably one of the best local seafood restaurants on the southside. This is where you would find high school kids take their prom date at. Servers wear tuxedo outfits, pretty classy but priced right I guess. Vast wine and spirits selections, everything on their menu tastes so delicious. But a bit of a warning, it is a little hard to find because you travel through a neighborhood and think you'll never get there but you will.
