A dirt bike is.

The Blast is a decent starter though, just not a perfect one.

Haha, I just meant that it's light and has ZERO power, so it hasn't gotten away from me yet. What makes a dirtbike the best starter?

The geometry creates a stance that allows for better control of the front wheel at slow speeds.

They are designed to be dropped and cause minimal damage.

They are, for the most part, lighter than almost every single other class of bike.

Only real downsides are that they are not street legal and the big ones have a tremendous seat height if you are a shortie.

Good to know. The Blast is very short for me. Is there a "sporty" or street bike that's known to be better for taller riders? Or should I just be looking for a dual-purpose type bike?

Try a Kawasaki Z1000 when you're ready to step up. It's a lot like riding a dirtbike.i had one for about a year and loved it.

I remember seeing Blasts by the truck load for cheap on craigslist. Some MSF classes had retired them.

The Ulysses would be a good height for you. I`m 6'1'' and it puts me just a hair above flat footing the pavement.

But that`s just if you want to stick to buell.

Yikes. 1000 is a lot more than I'll be ready for for quite some time, I think. But that is a GOOD looking bike.

Mr. White: I'm indifferent to brand names at this point. I wouldn't mind sticking with the brand, but if I did, I would probably want a Cyclone. Such a good looking bike.

I put down ~20,000 miles of saddle time in less than 3 years on smaller bikes; building up my confidence for the Zed. It was my dream bike from the start, but I'm glad I didn't get it right away.
