Re: 97 Jeep Wrangler Gear size
don't forget that while doing the rear end gears you must do the front or else you will blow the front axle. to go on the cheap side you could do rear first, just have to disconnect front drive shaft until the front end gears have been done. as far places to buy parts:
rustysoffroad.com
quadratec.com
4wd.com
and i did see somebody say it will get pricey, ill stand by that. J E E P, Just Empties Every Pocket. Jeep Eats Every Penny. Oh well, i love my cherokee though.

Yeah i definitely wasn't bragging about the 2.5. I use to have a 92 that a 4.0 and it was a lot stronger. However, I don't want to replace the motor this one runs strong only 80k miles. I'll look into the changing of the gears more later I guess. I don't really have that kind of cash right now to be messing with it. I'm just happy to be back in a Jeep! Thanks for all the help though guys.

Re: 97 Jeep Wrangler Gear size
cheers for getting back in a jeep. my old one was a 4.0 and now im stuck with the crappy 2.5. however i do have 4.88 gears on 33s and yes it pulls alot better but i would recommend for your needs to not go any higher than 4.56 because with 4.88s your rpms are alot higher on the highway and burn through the gas which is why im going to move up to 35s. that is what i would recommend. but your gas mileage is going to suffer on the interstate if you do decide to go to lower gears(numericaly higher). if you do more city roads than highway then yeah go to 4.56 unless you plan to go to 35 in tires which might cause big problems with the dana 35 rear axle.
big note do alot of reading and searching on other jeep forums. like stated above jeep forum is good for beginners and pirate4x4 has tons of great info too but is for more advanced wheelers.

No I'm sticking with the 33's I don't need anything bigger. Mine runs pretty good pretty strong. Like I said earlier I would just like to be able to do 70-80 on interstate, so if the 4.56 would do that I'll look into it.
