well i have a y8 in the car now, my engine is done for so i do need a new engine and just wanted a bit more power with a dohc vtec mainly just personal preference. i looked into b18s as well. i simply want a reliable car with a decent amount of power. i was told a b16 would be a direct swap? the vtec del sol has a b16a2 in it, which is the engine i would prefer to get.

selling this car is not an option, as i have already put quite a bit of work into it, new suspension and other stuff.

i have a total of $3k available for everything basically if i can have my car ready to drive for $3k then im golden so if a k swap is more thats not an option for me. i have the obd2 y8 engine in the car right now.

4k for a k series? thatd be the worst k series in history. a decent k setup will run close to 8k if you manage to find a cheap motor/trans

also a brand new b series with 0 miles on it would be expensive as hell, i knew a guy who bought a brand new 98+ itr swap from honda and he spent about 13k on everything.

OP pm jspecauto and ask what they have as far as b16s go

 

Here are your options

another y8, add a few turbo supporting parts, turbo kit, go fast

b16a2 swap, do the swap yourself

b18 or b20 swap, turbo setup do the swap yourself.

Hell I'd do the swap for you for $500 an have it done in a day or two. It would be easier for you to make friends with someone on here that has access to all the tools you need. Like I said it's easy with these cars. I've had a swap out in 2hrs with another bolted in with another guy that these cars. Granted I haven't messed with these cars in years because I messed with them when I was a lot younger, but it's simple. Invest in some tools. No way would I pay shop charges for this type of swap.


But if I was you, go with more displacement. I mean these motors barely make any power stock anyways, so a b20/vtec combo will be cheaper an be a little more rewarding on the road. Thats if you want a N/A motor setup. $700 for b20 longblock, find a vtec head, vtec conversion parts, then find a tranny. I mean look in the classifieds, find legit sellers, look on ebay. Sell your motor in parts, make a few dollars.
