Re: My first bike...
the the OP:
When you do buy a bike. make sure you ask for Out the Door price. and research OTD price for that model. I can tell you now that you can find the 08 250R for about 3900-4200 OTD. Well thats what i read on the kawi. forums. So good luck.

Re: My first bike...
dude I saw one on the interstate the other day blowing the doors off of cars it's fast enough for every day use.
the only drawback I would see in buying one is you might get bored of it pretty quick and want something bigger you may want to consider the 500 it's a bit of an older design but it will do anything you want it to do for a reasonable price

Re: My first bike...
the new 650 looks just like the 250 except has that extra power. If you REALLY want to start on a 250, I'd suggest getting an older one, then upgrading to the new 650 in a year when prices are down a little. I started on an older 600, and I honestly think I would have felt more comfortable on a 250 at first. I still wouldn't mind a 250.

Re: My first bike...
14 second quarters and top speed of around 115 mph...where will you do that on a daily basis?? It is faster than 85% of the cars on the street and cost less than $4K! This bike has more performance than most people will ever use...at least on the street. If you do want upgrades, there is probably some out now, but there will be more as it's around longer. You can buy almost everything performance wise for the 250R that you can for the bigger bikes, so yeah, you can get more out of it when you are ready. There is even a race class, so you better believe they can make little screamers out of them!
I still think that the 250R is one of the best bikes out there for beginners and novices alike, and kudos to Kawasaki for continuing to be the only ones to make a bike that fits this niche.
I am sure you can figure out how I feel about it. If you think you will be jumping up to a newer bike in a year or so (many do), then buy a used one to learn on. It has almost the same performance as the '08, still doesn't look bad, and it will be cheaper initially.

yeah, i didnt even know this bike existed. I am definitly going to try and get one as my first bike next spring. I mean hell, the payments will only be like 80 bucks a month.

Re: My first bike...
I would never look at that and think it was a 250. That's sharp! I would however do like everyone else said and buy an older used one as I do think youll outgrow it very quick.
