Like everyone said, its a battery tender lead. If you aren't going to be riding for a while and you have a battery tender you may as well maximize the life of your battery by putting it on.

There are some items like a heated vest that can plug right in and make riding in the winter a little more fun. Keep it and leave it attached to the battery for potential future use.
