OP, don't listen to any of these douche cannons. What is almost certainly the problem is a dry belt. There is an anti-flex dihydronic sphincter that makes a loud humming noise when the fan belt that runs over its pulley is excessively dry. what you want to do is spit on it or lube it up in some way so that it fits and slides with a minimal amount of resistance. this will cause the least amount of pain for you and your engine.
