what part of the story does it follow?

 

as far as i have seen, it doesn't follow the manga or anime story at all. it uses the same names and cars, with chinese actors, and it happens in japan. that's about it.

 

Actually, it pretty much follows the anime version that I watched with some changes towards the end of the Movie..
If I remember correctly, in the Anime version he races a yellow RX7 in the beginning, but in the Movie he races a Skyline.

 

somebody posted a link a while back about the movie and i don't remember specifics but i remember something about takumi racing takeshi nakazato of the night kids as his first race, and kyouiichi sudou of the emperors next, which is way off from the anime. i also remember something about takahashi ryosuke being a professional racer. probably not very far off of what most people's concept of initial d is, but as a devout follower of the anime i'm just not very excited to see a live action movie that differs from the original storyline.

on top of that i'm just not a big fan of chinese movies unless they have to do with martial arts.

bigger news to initial d fans would be an announcement of a 5th stage for the anime. i'm actually downloading the final episodes for the 4th stage as i type this- they were released in japan on june 18th and are just now making it online with english subtitles.
