There are some advantage why you want to (revo) chip:
1. if your car is under warranty, they will not be able to "see" it from their computer (at least for the revo)
2. with revo, they just need to reflash the chip without taking off the ECU & no soldering
3. you can put more than 1 program on the ECU (stock, 93 octane, 100 octane) to fully utilize the fuel you use
4. you can use a serial switch module to switch between programs
5. a switch called SPS3 can adjust boost and timing
6. adds about 40hp & 77 ft-lb tq (at least for my particular application)
7. if you've owned a european car before, most, if not all mods are much more expensive than jap or dsm cars - chipping (especially on the 1.8T engines) is one of the bang-for-the-buck mod and is one of the best mod for these cars

All good points and GIAC offers all of these as well (except the SPS3). Also, have you checked to see if Revo and GIAC are still pursuing the software that allows owners the ability to fine tune their own settings with a laptop?
Oh well, i guess i have to save up for the chip and wait till Christmas :-(
