I still can't afford $500 right now. I just bought my wife some new set of wheels for her A4 (it was her birthday last week) - and thats what i was thinkin' of getting for my birthday too (comin' up in less than 2 weeks).

There are some advantage why you want to (revo) chip:
1. if your car is under warranty, they will not be able to "see" it from their computer (at least for the revo)
2. with revo, they just need to reflash the chip without taking off the ECU & no soldering
3. you can put more than 1 program on the ECU (stock, 93 octane, 100 octane) to fully utilize the fuel you use
4. you can use a serial switch module to switch between programs
5. a switch called SPS3 can adjust boost and timing
6. adds about 40hp & 77 ft-lb tq (at least for my particular application)
7. if you've owned a european car before, most, if not all mods are much more expensive than jap or dsm cars - chipping (especially on the 1.8T engines) is one of the bang-for-the-buck mod and is one of the best mod for these cars

All good points and GIAC offers all of these as well (except the SPS3). Also, have you checked to see if Revo and GIAC are still pursuing the software that allows owners the ability to fine tune their own settings with a laptop?

I would happily jump with GIAC if the shop near me didn't quoted me about $150 more than what it really cost. I also checked their website (chantilly) and these guys do Porsche's, Audi's and other high end cars. Seems like they cater to people with thick wallets. Unfortunately, im not one of those guys.

Oh well, i guess i have to save up for the chip and wait till Christmas :-(
