B16 or LS???

i went through the same decision...i got a 97 ls and wished i had gotten a b16. Unless you have money to turbo the ls right off hand..you wont be too satisfyed with the ls..but maybe that was just me missing vtec after going from a type r to ls hatch. the b16 isnt as tourqey but its still gonna be quicker and a good highway car.

B16A is my choice I dunno why.

Actually the CR would be about 9.7-9.8ish according to C-Speedracing's websites Compression Ratio calculator with B18C block and B16A head. ALso incorrect is the rod to stroke ratio being better in the B18C motor, the B16A has a rod to stroke ratio of 1.74:1 , B18C is 1.58:1 and the wrost Rod to stroke ratio is the LS/B20C/Z at 1.54 rod to stroke ratio. The flow between the GSR and B16A heads are very very very close depends on which head porter you talk to, Seth at Abacus truely feels the B16A/Type R PR3 heads are better and that's why Honda cjose them to use them for the Type R motors. Longer stroke however will make more torque and low end grunt, my B16A wants to be revved, my next dyno will be revved to 9500rpms atleast since it did not die at 9000before kept climbing. HTH

Oh yeah stock B16A =1595ccs, B18C/5=1797cc, B18A/B=1834cc, B20B=1973cc, Also B16B which is the Civic Type R motor is 1595cc but is the same deck heigth and same block as a B18C/C5, all you need is the crank and rods from a B18C to make the B16B a 1.8 liter.

I knew it was somewhere in the that range(couldnt remember off hand). I dont think I said the b18c had a better rod to stroke than the b16a.

Yeah after reading your post I think you were saying the B18C had a better R/S ratio than the B18A/B but displacement is smaller than an LS motor. It may just be the way you posted it oh well. About to go finish up the motor, it's in wired up just need to put axles on, fluids, etc etc and it's done, NA for a couple of weeks breaking it in. ANXIOUS!

i have driven a regular LS,and a semi built turbo LS......... i have to say i like my 2 B16s alot more than i liked the LSs'

just my uneducated opinion hahah

ya if you want a fast engine...use the ls bottom end build for turbo and use the b16 head and don't use the v-tec...it will run better low end with the torque of the ls and strong top-end with the b16 head...thats just my opinion.
