but this is the header design and you can see how close it is from hittign the body of the car

So it flows very well but space is severly limited.

Shorty's are a waste of money. LT's or bust. Shorty's are easier to install, but you won't be pleased with them...stock LS1 manifolds flow better than shorty headers. I know that's pretty much a moot point especially since you're buying an LT1, but I'm just trying to keep you from buying them.

I hear these are great engines. Just a few q's

Hows maintenace, how much does a mild cam cost and what am I expected to gain from it?

Max nitrous shot on stock. Not a ricer question i'm very serious.

And anyone know wheere I can buy one?
Maintenance on a small block Chevy is extremely easy, but what you are installing it in is going to really hamper that ease of maintenance. Spark plug changes for example are probably going to be a pain in the ass for example. The cam is not all that expensive and you can pick up a used one for decent scratch, with low mileage. They get traded around in the classified sections like condoms. You will not be able to spray anything larger than a 100 shot, anything larger and you risk detonation. It gets worse the the more mileage a motor has on it. It should be an excellent car when you complete it, a good reference for how it should handle is the 3rd gen RX7 on Tidewater that has an LT1 in it.

I believe they are his only option because of the room available. Even the guys doing LS1 conversion into 1st gen F-bods were using 01-02 stock manifolds for their cars. Their only options were custom fabricated longtubes or a set of shorties and the factory 01-02 manifolds flowed better than the shorties. On an LT1 those shorty manifolds will be much better than the factory LT1 manifolds. So he will be good to go with them.

Side note, but I am pulling an LS1 out of my TA in about 2 weeks... It has 21,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of. It's gonna go as a long block with all covers for cheap if you're intrested. It made 303 RWHP in it's bone stock form spinning my big heavy 17x11" Zr1s with 315/35s... at the recent SATS dyno night. Someone on this board may have seen it. It would make a good starting point.

Has anyone done a LS1 swap? You can pick up complete drivetrains for $4k on ls1tech.com.
