My dad has an aftermarket gear indicator on his FZ1 which is essentially the same as your R1. I personally don't like it (for the money) and i wanted it in the first place. It takes too long in between gears. On the other hand the plug and play indicator for his Goldwing worked great. I forgot what brand is on there, but I can check if you need.
